Brooks Adaptive Sports
Don Bergman is a competitive athlete in the Brooks Adaptive Sports and Recreation Program managed by Alice Krauss, in addition to being a full-time professional, husband and friend. He participates in quad rugby, archery and rowing. He also mentors individuals with new spinal cord injuries. 
"It’s all about the parking spots!" - rock star parking as they say in the disabled world, states a smiling Don Bergman from the back of a horse. Don is responding to the playful question, are you faking it, referring to his quadriplegia. He’s just enjoying checking off another item on his bucket list.
Don was an active high school student when he dove into a friend’s pool and broke his neck 30 years ago. Despite 6 months of hospitalization and multiple medical complications, Don refused to give up. He graduated with his high school class, went on to receive a Bachelors’ Degree and now works full time at Blue Cross Blue Shield. To those who know Don’s warm ways, it is no surprise that he and his soul mate literally tested the water of marriage during their engagement while sailing the seas on an accessible working tall ship.
